This week, many school districts are on Spring Break, and because all of the House and Senate bills that have survived still need to be assigned to committees, the legislature has taken a brief recess so that my colleagues and I can spend time with our loved ones and recharge our batteries for the second half of session.
We now have the official number of bills that we’ll consider: 813. In the House, this includes 378 bills, and in the Senate, there are 435 bills that passed through their chamber. The initial number of bills that were filed was 2,838.
Yesterday, I enjoyed attending the Oklahoma Youth Expo (OYE) with many of my legislative colleagues. This is the largest youth livestock show in the entire country! There were lots of pigs, cattle, goats, and sheep. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help Gage McNeil of Elgin Public Schools show his pig during the show!
In case you missed it, I uploaded a short video giving a tour of my office at the Capitol (Room 500). I’ve got an open door policy, so if you’re ever in OKC, please stop on by! This office ultimately belongs to the Lawtonians in House District 62.
And finally, we’ll have our next town hall meeting this Saturday, March 23rd at the Lawton Public Library from 1 PM to 3 PM. These have been awesome experiences because of the thoughtful questions and honest conversations we’ve had together. If you’re unable to come to this town hall, then no worries! There will be another one in the near future.
